What is yoga?
The practice of yoga is about finding strength and grace, stability and flexibility. Yoga is a practice designed to unite the mind, body and spirit through the breath (pranayama) and the poses (asanas).
What are the benefits of yoga?
For your mind…..release stress and tension, relax, improve concentration. Learn to think beyond your usual boundaries.
For your body…..strengthen and tone your muscles, increase your flexibility, improve your endurance, and lose weight.
For your spirit….learn to hear as well as listen, see the world around you with more insight and clarity, and find peace by lowering your heart rate, calming your breath, and stilling your mind.
Yoga tips for in and out of the studio
- No cell phones or pagers, please. Remove your shoes before walking on the practice floor.
- Practice on an empty stomach, or if you must eat, eat light.
- Drink plenty of water after class to help flush out toxins and waste. Feel free to drink water during class, if needed.
- Avoid perfumes and other fragrances, as they may disturb other students.
- You may be sore after the first few classes. This is normal, and will subside with continued practice.
- Take it easy, never force or strain. Practice “ahimsa”, non-harm to yourself. Work at your own pace.
- Feel free to ask questions! Our teachers are there for you!
- Take a few minutes each day to nurture your mind, body and spirit. Maybe a few poses, a peaceful mediation, or a few quiet moments of reflection. Your entire day will be better!
- Take what you learn out of the studio with you. Yoga can be practiced off the mat, as well.
Our studio is open for classes and workshops; the doors are unlocked about 15 minutes before a session begins. If you are coming to purchase gift certificates or retail, please honor the published class times; you can come before a class or after to browse our retail area. If you are coming for a class and the door is locked, please wait outside the studio, and the teacher will be there to show you in. We lock the doors during class time to prevent interruptions. Thank you for respecting this, and planning your visit accordingly.
