Yoga West is a friendly, welcoming place where people come together to
practice yoga. Here, everyone knows your name. Friends meet, practice,
share, and everyone feels included.
When you enter the doors of Yoga West into the soft lights, warm space, and
relaxing scent of aromatherapy, your breath immediately slows, your heart
calms, and your worries begin to fade. You are once again in your sane and
safe place.
Yoga West has well trained, talented and devoted teachers who take their
yoga seriously, but not themselves. They love teaching yoga, but they are
also "regular" people, with jobs, homes, families, and all the same crazy
over scheduled lives as you. They teach yoga not to find their identity, but
to enhance it. They know the transformation that yoga has created in their
own full and busy lives, and they want to share it with you.
Yoga West offers a variety of classes to keep you enthusiastic about your
practice. The classes are challenging yet fun, adventurous yet safe,
energizing yet cleansing, serious yet playful. Yoga West is a fun place to be,
with instructors (and students), who can laugh and play without losing the
meditative and internal aspect of the practice.
You by now have heard about the many benefits of yoga: stress reduction,
improved breathing, strengthening and lengthening the muscles, and so
much more. If you are unsure about the "stigma" surrounding yoga: the
ancient practices, the mysticism, the language, we invite you to try yoga
Yoga West style. There is no secret club, no required chants, and you don't
even have to be quiet or still. Whether you are bendy as a pretzel or stiff as
a board, you will learn from, laugh with, and grow to love the community
that is Yoga West.
What is yoga?
The practice of yoga is about finding strength and grace, stability and flexibility. Yoga is a practice designed to
unite the mind, body and spirit through the breath (pranayama) and the poses (asanas).
What are the benefits of yoga?
For your mind.....release stress and tension, relax, improve concentration. Learn to think beyond your usual
boundaries.
For your body.....strengthen and tone your muscles, increase your flexibility, improve your endurance, and lose
weight.
For your spirit....learn to hear as well as listen, see the world around you with more insight and clarity, and find
peace by lowering your heart rate, calming your breath, and stilling your mind.
Yoga tips for in and out of the studio
- No cell phones or pagers, please. Remove your shoes before walking on the practice floor.
- Practice on an empty stomach, or if you must eat, eat light.
- Drink plenty of water after class to help flush out toxins and waste. Feel free to drink water during class, if
needed.
- Avoid perfumes and other fragrances, as they may disturb other students.
- You may be sore after the first few classes. This is normal, and will subside with continued practice.
- Take it easy, never force or strain. Practice "ahimsa", non-harm to yourself. Work at your own pace.
- Feel free to ask questions! Our teachers are there for you!
- Take a few minutes each day to nurture your mind, body and spirit. Maybe a few poses, a peaceful mediation,
or a few quiet moments of reflection. Your entire day will be better!
- Take what you learn out of the studio with you. Yoga can be practiced off the mat, as well.
